Botox®, Xeomin®, Dysport® & Jeuveau®

FDA approved neurotoxins for diminishing the appearance of dynamic lines

Neurotoxins at a Glance

This quick, no downtime procedure is safe, reliable, and predictable, making it one of the most widely performed cosmetic procedures. Other areas in which Botox® can be used include around the mouth for smoker’s lines, and on the neck for certain wrinkles.

Xeomin® is the latest neurotoxin to be approved for cosmetic use.  It is very similar to Botox®, except that it does not have some extra protein along with the toxin.  This lack of protein may lead to less resistance for its users.

Dysport® is another relatively recently approved competitor to Botox®.  Both Xeomin® and Dysport® have been available in Europe for years, and enjoy a similar safety and efficacy profile as Botox® in Mclean, VA.

Jeuveau® is the latest of the neurotoxins to hit the market. While it gives results similar to that of the other injectables mentioned above, it is said to last a bit longer.

Each of these products are offered at the Cosmetic Dermatology Center.

More About Botox®, Xeomin®, Dysport® and Jeuveau®

These products are widely recognized for their ability to reduce facial lines and creases and help patients combat the signs of aging.

While some injectors and patients have a personal preference for one brand over another, they are all safe and effective with some variation in their onset.

What Are Neurotoxins and How Do They Work?

All three are used as cosmetic injectables to block nerve signals and prevent muscle contraction.

Once facial muscles are temporarily deactivated, they limit the expressions that are responsible for the development and deepening of wrinkles.

Therefore, many patients seek these treatments to improve existing lines and prevent future creases from forming.

What Aesthetic Concerns Can These Neurotoxins Treat?

These neurotoxins are FDA-approved to diminish forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines.

How Quickly Do They Begin to Work?

This is where Botox®, Dysport®, Jeuveau® and Xeomin® slightly differ.

Most aesthetic experts believe that Dysport® works the fastest, followed by Botox®, and then Xeomin®.

Patients often note the effects of Dysport® within 2-3 days, the effects of Botox® in 2-7 days, and the effects of Xeomin® in 3-4 days.

How Long Do Results Last?

Dysport® and Botox® in Northern Virginia last up to 4 months, while the effects Xeomin® are typically present for about 3 months. In addition, Jeuveau® has been said to last about 5 to 6 months.

However, product duration can vary from patient to patient, depending on the amount injected, strength of facial muscles, and rate at which the substance is metabolized by the body.
