How Long Do Fillers Last?
Patients considering an injectable treatment to restore volume and enhance their appearance often want to know: How long do fillers last?
The answer to this question is a bit more complex than a simple number and can be affected by many factors.
Continue reading to learn how filler formulation and treatment area affect filler longevity.
How Long Do Fillers Last?
In order to answer this question, it’s important to consider several factors, including:
- Filler material
- Filler consistency
- Area injected
- Patient metabolic rate – how quickly each individual’s body breaks down the injected product
- Injector technique and skill set
That being said, filler material is one of the strongest indicators of longevity.
Hyaluronic acid fillers, which include Juvederm, Restylane, and Belotero, typically last 6 to 18 months. Thicker hyaluronic acid injectables like Juvederm Voluma can last up to 24 months.
Calcium hydroxylapatite injectables such as Radiesse can restore volume for up to 12 months. They also stimulate collagen growth to strengthen the skin’s foundation.
Poly-L-lactic acid fillers, such as Sculptra, also promote collagen production, and benefits can last up to 24 months.
Filler Longevity According to Treatment Area
In addition to filler material, treatment area is another important factor to consider.
Around the Eyes
Hyaluronic acid fillers are usually injected into the tear trough area to restore volume and diminish under eye circles and hollows. Results can last up to 12 months.
In the Cheeks
When a thicker, more viscous filler, such as Juvederm Voluma, is injected in the cheeks, it can provide added volume and structure for up to 24 months.
For the Nose
Dermal fillers are an excellent option for a nonsurgical nose job, and results can last 12 months or more.
On the Chin
A nonsurgical cheek augmentation with fillers improves facial contours and refines the patient’s profile for 15-24 months.
Fillers in the Lips
The duration of lip fillers varies by product. While some can last anywhere from 6-12 months, there are others that can last up to a year and a half.
