Xeomin, an Alternative to Botox, is Now Available!

Last week another neurotoxin, Xeomin®, was FDA-approved for cosmetic use.  This exciting new product is very simililar to Botox®, and has been available in Europe for many years.  This now brings the number of neurotoxins approved for cosmetic use up to three (Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®).  “I am very excited to be one of the first to offer this new neurotoxin in northern Virginia”, said Dr. Hayre.  “Clinical data from Xeomin® is excellent, and it is always nice to have more options when treating patients.”  Dr. Hayre went on to explain that Xeomin® does not have an extra protein that the other two products have, making it a great option for those who have developed some resistance to the other products over the years.  When resistance develops, it is usually due to antibodies against this protein.

Just as patients have become accustomed to with Botox® and Dysport®, treatment is quick and relatively painless.  Effects can be seen a few days after injection, and last for months.
